Calendaring interoperability woes

Posted in calendaring, google, ical, outlook by sudarkoff on May 9, 2007

It amazes me to no end that such a simple and fundamental problem as calendaring could not be solved after decades of advances in our field. We put a man on the Moon, for god’s sake! Why can’t we make Outlook Calendar, Google Calendar and Apple iCal work together well?

I guess the answer is in your own words… they put a man on the Moon… ;-)

And they want to do it again by 2018… Not sure I understand what you mean. Software Development is not that juvenile. Although I have to agree, we have a long way to go before we reach our Moon.

GCal has a pretty simple API already. Once iCal adds CalDAV support in Leopard, we’ll just need a little app that can translate b/w CalDAV and GCal’s API. Outlook sucks and will probably never support an open standard properly.
